The Sony Special: The Art of "Open Season"
Doug Ikeler, Visuals Effects Supervisor, Sony Pictures Imageworks

Visual effects supervisor Doug Ikeler discusses the combination of science and artistry that was used to create a completely CG animated film which was inspired by traditional 2D animation techniques and style, but was brought to the screen using 3D animation technology. Topics such as "the translation of visual development artwork to final image,” "matching texturing to character design,” "lighting and tweaking in composite" and "level of detail for the environment" will be discussed.

Doug Ikeler joined Sony Pictures Imageworks in 2003 to work on "Open Season", the first animated feature from Sony Pictures Animation. As digital effects supervisor, Ikeler is responsible for the look, style and creative direction of all digital imagery in the movie.
Prior to coming to Imageworks, Ikeler was at DreamWorks, where he worked on "Sinbad", "The Road to El Dorado" and "The Prince of Egypt". Ikeler garnered an Annie Award nomination for the animated water system developed on "The Road to El Dorado".
