Keynote: Pursuing Film Quality Rendering in Real Time
Curtis Beeson , NVIDIA

While realtime graphics offer an interactivity that cannot be matched by film, movies shape our expectation for what can be done in the medium. I would like to discuss opportunities and obstacles in approaching film quality in realtime computer graphics. I will use the applications that my team have created to illustrate successes and failures in technology, art, and process in hopes that others may learn from them. Finally, I would like to discuss where I believe graphics hardware will be going in the next 5 years, and what I believe that will mean for content.

Curtis Beeson is the manager of the Demoteam at NVIDIA Corporation, where he has developed many of their graphics demos and core technologies for the past 7 years. He joined NVIDIA from SGI, where he contributed to VRML authoring tools, the VRML 2.0 specification, and developed several image-based rendering techniques. Curtis graduated with honors from Carnegie-Mellon University, where he worked at the Studio for Creative Inquiry, a collaboration between the schools of Fine Arts and Computer Science where he developed recreational and educational Virtual Reality applications.
