TV Buyers: What formats are TV Buyers looking for?

Manuela Lumb will be talk about the WDR´s program structure, what formats they are currently looking for at after what criteria they are choosing.

Karen Mitrega will give an overview of Super RTL's day time program 2006, touching on the various time slots, various means of getting content for the program and give examples of productions. At the end, she will talk about new formats they have.

Nathan Waddington will present a Profile of Jetix Europe along with a snap-shot of the content from 2005-2006.

Manuela Lumb was producer for different animation and live action companies. For more than 8 years, she has worked as a commissioning editor for public broadcasters (ARD), responsible for children's and family programmes. Since 2002, she has been responsible for “The show with the Mouse” (Sendung mit der Maus). Animation is an essential part of WDR’s children programme. WDR requires short programmes for the whole family, as elements of the magazine “The Show with the Mouse” as well as 11" to 22" format. WDR target audience are children aged 3 to 12 years. The main focus is on classic cartoons.

Since 2004 Karen Mitrega takes care of series like "W.I.T.C.H". (Jetix / SIP Animation) and "Dragon Hunters-Die Drachenjäger" (FuturIkon / RTV Family Entertainment / France 3). She is also a project leader for cross media topics. As "Home of Animation", Super RTL offers 14 hours of entertainment a day for kids featuring international animated series such as Angela Anaconda, SpongeBob, Mr.-Bean-the animated Series and Bob the Builder as well as inhouse productions. The high quality portfolio attracts both girls and boys from the age of 3 to 13 years. In the evening, Super RTL broadcasts a non-violent programme for the whole family: movies, comedy shows, popular series and high quality cartoons (cartoon movie).
On the internet is the most successful site for kids in Europe. For children from the ages of 3 to 8, Super RTL has launched the TOGGOLINO CLUB, a premium content website containing more than 80 educative games. Selected top-properties are also marketed through Super RTL's inhouse merchandising agency.

Nathan Waddington was promoted to Director of Pan-European Acquisitions & UK Programming, Jetix Europe (formerly Fox Kids Europe) in April 2005. In this capacity he is responsible for overseeing all acquisitions and co-productions within the Pan European Programming Department as well as assessing, acquiring, creating and developing all the schedules for both the UK and Pan-Euro Channels. Mr. Waddington reports to Michael Lekes, Senior Vice President of Programming, Jetix Europe.
Mr. Waddington joined Jetix Europe in August 1997 as Programming Manager. He was then promoted to Head of Programming, Jetix Nordic (formerly Fox Kids Scandinavia), Poland and CEE in 1999 and in April 2001 became Head of Acquisitions, Jetix UK.

Animation is an essential part of WDR´s children´s programmes. We require programmes for the whole family, feature-length animated films as series of 11' or 22'. Our target audience is children aged from 6-14 years. We are interested in all formats that differ from others, the main focus being classic cartoons but also wacky culty formats for teens and twens.
